Effects of War

Hitler tome gains popularity
in Muslim Turkey

The long-range effects of our country's war in Iraq undoubtedly create a future generation of men and women whose lives were directly affected by President Bush's decision to pursue nonexistent weapons of mass destruction.

Perhaps an example of the effect is a book by Adolf Hitler that is gaining in poularity.

An article in the Lebanon Daily Star shows that Hitler's Mein Kampf is selling like hotcakes in the Muslim nation of Turkey. In the tome, Hitler outlines his anti-Semitic vew of the world. Jewish people in Turkey are understandably alarmed.

Some analysts say the appeal of "Mein Kampf" probably is linked to anti-Americanism here that rose with the invasion of neighboring Iraq. Others say Turks are drawn more by the book's nationalistic message, especially at a time when the European Union is demanding great freedom for non-Muslim minorities in Turkey.
