Maps modified with population data show more balanced election results
So much for a mandate

Here's a great article about the 2004 presidential election results. There are various maps that have been modified to take into account population, etc... Some show a more balanced vote than traditional red and blue maps indicate. Some also show similar, if not more moderate, results to the actual outcome of the election.

The cartogram reveals what we know already from the news: that the country was actually very evenly divided by the vote, rather than being dominated by one side or the other.
